“打秋风”本是俗语，意在趁丰饶而取之，而“济”则是对困苦的人加以帮助。张小瑞以此作为落款隐喻其创作过程——既向外界贪婪而谦卑地索取，又借此磨砺内心，最终成就画中图景。
本次展览回顾了张小瑞近年来的“打秋风济”，呈现了他在探索西方表现主义与中国写意绘画过程中所经历的心性旅程。每一件作品，都是一次外界与内心的对话：
《大海旁的我们》打表现主义形式的秋风，济内心对自由、激情与活力的追求；《隐山居》《春色》《一湖秋风》打山、树、舟、房、人的秋风，济笔墨间流露的禅机与宁静；《忧伤和晃动的四月》《穿过灿烂的小路》《精神小鸟》《彩色山峦》打抽象自然主义与写意形式的秋风，济心灵深处的情绪、思索与觉知。
通过这些脉络清晰的作品，我们可以期待：未来，张小瑞会在树间的微光、水里的游云，表现主义、抽象自然主义与写意形式之外，寻找到更多 “秋风”。无论打网而起，还是空手而归，他的人与画，都将拥抱并承载着当时内心的富足，在明悟与混沌间，在若有若无间，行游。
Gleaning from the Autumn Breeze – Zhang Xiaorui Solo Exhibition
“Da Qiu Feng” or “Gleaning from the Autumn Breeze” is adapted from a common idiom that originally means to seize from abundance, while the word “Ji” (济) implies offering help to those in need. Zhang Xiaorui uses this phrase as a metaphor for his creative process—greedily yet humbly drawing from the external world, refining his inner self through this journey, and ultimately shaping the images in his paintings.
This exhibition reflects Zhang Xiaorui’s “give and take” from recent years, showcasing the spiritual path he has traversed while exploring Western expressionism and Chinese freehand painting. Each work is a dialogue between the external and the internal
In “By the Sea”, he takes from expressionist forms, giving it to his inner pursuit of freedom, passion, and vitality; in “Hidden Mountain Dwelling”, “Spring Scenery”, and “A Lake of Autumn Breeze”，he draws inspiration from mountains, trees, boats, houses, and people, enriching his ink and brush with serenity and the spirit of Zen; in “Sad, Yet Shimmering April”, “Walking Through a Radiant Path”, “Spirited Bird”, and “Colorful Mountains”, he explores with abstract naturalism and the freehand style, revealing emotions, thoughts, and awarenesses deep in his soul.
Through these works of a clear sequence of artistic ideas, we could expect Zhang Xiaorui to continue finding “gleanable autumn breezes” in the glimmers of light through trees, the drifting clouds over water, and beyond the forms of expressionism ,abstract naturalism and freehand painting. Whether he casts his net and captures in abundance or returns empty-handed, his heart and art will go on to embrace and carry the richness of the moment, wandering between clarity and confusion, presence and absence.
