森林几乎是一切生命的根本,无数生灵于其中繁衍生息,然一旦被自诩为“高等文明”的人类闯入,往往便开始生灵涂炭瘟疫横行,分辨不清他们究竟是天使还是瘟神。由个体命运的翻覆联想到宇宙无穷的变化及其背后的逻辑与规律,正是创作者们重要的灵感来源与表达诉求。过去的一年是许多意义上的“元年”,曾经一泻千里的大河短暂地回归平静,沉没已久的礁石得以再现。钱塘江上潮信来,艺术家对自身生活与社会变迁的观察变得更为细致,并以画笔与刻刀表现出自己对现实的反思,包括人与人的关系、人与社会的关系等等。正如厄休拉·勒古恩(Ursula K. Le Guin)所写,“森林中没有一条清晰的路,没有一丝直射的光。总是有树叶、树枝、树干、树根掺入风中或水底,跟日光、星光搅和在一起,混成阴影般朦胧的一团。”没有任何事物是可以完全一目了然的,人们不断探求内外的原始动力或许正来自于此。

Forests are a vital source of life, where countless creatures thrive and reproduce. Once the advancement of human civilizations intrudes, however, havoc ensues, and the boundary between boon and curse, betterment and degradation blurs. From the upheaval of individual destinies and its correspondence with the infinite changes of the cosmos and its underlying patterns and logics, the artists draw inspiration and express aspirations. The past year was in many ways an “inception”, where once turbulent rivers briefly returned to calmness, and long-lost reefs resurfaced. With great waves approaching, the artists have become more meticulous in observing their own lives and the changing society around them, expressing their reflections on earthly realities with brushes and chisels, inquiring on the relations among individuals, community, and the beyond. As Ursula K. Le Guin writes, ” No way was clear, no light unbroken, in the forest. Into wind, water, sunlight, starlight, there always entered leaf and branch, bole and root, the shadowy, the complex. ” Nothing can be known with clarity in entirety. This perhaps is the primal force for humanity’s inner and outer searches.
